Instrumental Music Lessons (Guitar, Piano, Ukulele, Mandolin)
Beginning Students: Lessons focus on gaining fundamental skills on the instrument. Students will explore the landscape of their instrument, learn about important musical elements such as melody, harmony, tempo, meter, rhythm, pitch, notation, dynamics, and song structure, and will gain the ability to construct any chord through the application of music theory and ear training.
Intermediate Students: Lessons focus on refining the skills gained at the beginning level. The study of music theory and ear training, and technical aspects of playing will be continued and applied to the student’s choice of repertoire. Students at the intermediate level will also begin to explore the art of performance and what goes into a dynamic and memorable performance.
Advanced Students: Lessons focus on polishing the skills gained at previous levels. Preparation for public performance will be a primary focus at this level. Mentoring is also available to students at the advanced level who are considering a career in music, or who are already playing professionally but want to gain a better understanding of certain aspects of the music business such as recording, production, marketing and promotion.
Voice Lessons offered here focus on freeing the natural voice and helping the student to develop a relationship with their own voice. Classical vocal techniques are explored as well as other approaches to vocal technique. Emphasis is placed on maintaining vocal health while developing the voice. Focus is given to developing the student’s ability to sing unaccompanied by an instrument, or accompanied by the piano, guitar, or instrumental ensemble.
Composition Lessons are arranged according to the goals of the student. Lessons or classes in composition have a prerequisite of at least three consistent years of instrumental music, and a solid working knowledge of music theory. An assessment will be given to determine if a student is eligible to enroll in composition lessons at this studio.
